The Hunterdon Central School Foundation is an independent, community-based, nonprofit organization, which seeks to set an example of community involvement and support for public schools. The Foundation strives to assist the Hunterdon Central Regional High School District by securing private-sector resources and community support for:
- Enhancing the educational experiences of students
- Preparing students for higher education and the world of work
- Building student understanding of the American system of private enterprise
- Other purposes for which public funding is not available
In the past seven years, the Foundation has awarded over $53,000 in 30 different grants for initiatives not funded through the School budget, recognized the annual Teacher of the Year, Educational Support Professional of the Year and provided scholarships to students. The Foundation's goal in supporting each of these projects is to enrich the student experience at Hunterdon Central. This year's grant helped support the school's garden. In the past, funds have been used for a community garden and weather station, the establishment of the Red Devil Ambassadors, a practical mathematics activity and environmentally friendly water dispensers. Additional grants have supported an ELL Community Outreach Day, an Aviation course that ended up becoming part of the standard curriculum, coursework on Alternative Energy, a Shakespeare Residency program, introduction of the Memory Project, which is has become part of the art courses, an Outdoor Classroom, introduced students to simple machine structures and helped fund resources for CNC technology integration in Design and Applied Technology. Additionally, the Foundation has supported special initiatives of the school, including the One School One Book program, the 50th Anniversary Celebration and in-home computer needs of students with financial hardship.
The Foundation is made up of an all-volunteer Foundation Board. Members include alumni, former staff, parents and local citizens who share the common goal of helping the Hunterdon Central community. The Foundation continues to seek new members who have the same commitment and dedication to our community and its children.
